About

Alex Wenstrup is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice engages with architecture, photography, and glass. Drawing from personal archives and spatial observations—often captured during his time on the road—Wenstrup explores themes of transparency, light, horizons, and vastness. His multi-planar assemblages invite moments of awe and contemplation, challenging conventional perceptions of space, time, and memory. As his works step, distort, and shift, they evoke a sense of nostalgia and reflect on the fragility of our environment.

Based in Providence, Rhode Island, Wenstrup is an artist, educator, and fabricator. Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design. During his time at RISD, he developed a close connection with the Glass Department, which continues to inform his cross-disciplinary approach.

Wenstrup’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including at the 2023 Stanislav Libenský Award Exhibition in Prague and in a recent duo show at the Chazan Gallery at The Wheeler School in Providence. He currently works with Soda Glass House, a local design studio, where he develops custom glassblowing tools and contributes to the design of glass furnaces to reduce airborne particulate matter and improve energy efficiency. He also serves as a Hot Shop Monitor in the RISD Glass Department, supporting students in the hot casting process.
